New News
  • Our classrooms completed our Standard Response Protocol training with our classes so they know how to keep themselves safe :)
  • Some of us have some new visitors in our classroom....ask your 5th grader about the caterpillars and where they are in their journey to fly home :)

Oldie, but Goodies
  • Some families signed our Digital Device Agreement with your 5th grader at conferences or Open House.  If not, we have sent this home with your 5th grader for you to sign and return.  Thanks!
  • If you know throughout the year that you will be gone on vacation, you will need to fill out an online form.  IN ADDITION, please let the classroom teacher know as well.  Thanks!
  • Here is our shameless plea to all parents/guardians.  We don't take many field trips during the year, but if things come up at the last minute and for the end of the year all day trip we really count on parents joining us.  If you think you might even consider this, please do the volunteer training now so we are not scrambling at the last minute. The training is good for only one year.  After that, you do need to re-apply, but it is a simple process after the first round of training.  Thank you!!  Volunteering Link
  • Students will need headphones at school.  Please send this in as soon as you can--Thanks!
Math
  • This week the 5th grade math class worked with factors, multiples and the associative property to write and solve expressions/equations.  We continued to work with volume and also introduced the idea of finding surface area of a rectangular prism.
  • Our Number Corner this month will focus on making connections between numbers written as fractions and decimals and start our work with volume in tangible and strategic ways.
Literacy this week
  • We are in our first EL unit of the year based on Stories of Human Rights this week.
  • We will be using a variety of texts.  Our main texts will be the book Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan and an abridged version of  the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  • This week we continued to read our text, discuss and recognize when human rights are being violated in the story and summarizing our learning by highlighting main ideas and supporting details.
Science
  • Our first unit will be on Modeling Matter as we answer the question:
What happens when two substances are mixed together?
  • Our first chapter will focus on :  Why did the food coloring separate into different dyes?

Noticias

A veces surgen salidas imprevistas a última hora; y necesitamos voluntarios/ chaperones.

SELS: Aprendizaje Socioemocional

Lecciones de salud
